YES! Laser hair removal is a permanent treatment that uses amplified light to remove hair. The energy from the light safely destroys individual hairs by targeting the pigment in each follicle.

What makes laser hair removal problematic for dark skin is when the laser targets the pigment (melanin) in your skin in addition to the hair follicle. In our clinic, we offer the most recently available COMBINED LASER TECHNOLOGY. This technology combines N:d Yag and Alexandrite laser technology which means we can treat both dark hair and dark skin!

During a laser hair removal treatment, flashes of light are emitted onto the unwanted hair. The light penetrates through the skin and selectively targets the melanin in the hair follicles. The pigment absorbs light energy, which effectively destroys the hair. Depending on the size of the machine being used, multiple hairs can sometimes be treated simultaneously.

Multiple sessions are necessary to target the hair follicles during their growth stage. Most clients need at least 4 treatments to see permanent, long-lasting results. You should see results after the first treatment – your hairs will grow back finer and weaker and your skin will become smoother. Results will become more noticeable with each additional treatment until all follicles are destroyed, successfully stopping continuous hair growth.

First things first, before you undergo laser treatment, you must not expose the treatment area to the sun’s rays or a sunbed. A sunscreen of a minimum SPF 30, or preferably a total sunblock of SPF 50 should be applied whenever avoiding sun exposure is impossible.

You must avoid plucking, waxing or bleaching the hair for six weeks prior to treatment. This is because preserving the root and the pigment of the hair is key to the success of the laser treatment.

It is important to shave the area to be treated the day or night before your appointment. Doing this will prevent heat damage to the surface of the skin as there won’t be hair on the surface to absorb the laser’s energy. It will allow the laser to go directly to the hair follicle. It will also let the skin heal in case the surface is cut whilst shaving.
