Will Micro-Needling Change Your (Skin Care) Life? Dermapen® at The Practice Beauty Clinic Sunbury-on-Thames.

What is Micro-Needling and What Does It Do?

Micro-Needling is a minimally invasive treatment that can be used all over the body, literally from head to toe. To revamp the appearance of scars, boost collagen, or encourage luscious hair growth. Put merely, micro-needling is the insertion of incredibly fine short needles into the skin for rejuvenation; this certainly sounds scarier than it is!  The treatment may look and sound ominous (and bloody!). Hey, multiple needle wounds to the face – we get it. There is nothing to worry about as the punctures are more like pin-pricks that are only surface-level deep. We are not saying that it is a painless procedure but the benefits certainly outway a little bit of discomfort!

What is the Dermapen®?

“The Dermapen® is an automated micro-needling device with a disposable tip cartridge that is made up of 12 micro-needles, which uses proprietary technology to penetrate vertically into the skin.” – taken directly from dermapen.com.

How and Why the Dermapen® Works

The stamping action the Dermapen’s tip uses creates invisible ‘micro-injuries’ to the skin’s surface. This stimulates the skin’s natural aptitude to heal itself and increase the creation of brand new collagen. By doing this, the ‘micro-injuries’ encourage the body’s ability to regrow and repair the skin through completely natural physiological processes. The result? Your skin becomes rejuvenated and refreshed!

What is Micro-Needling Good For?

Micro-needling can be effective at boosting the penetration of topical skincare and plumping skin. As well as this, the treatment is effective in reducing fine lines, wrinkles and acne scars. It’s also a fabulous option for minimizing stretch marks. Micro-needling improves the colour and appearance of stretch marks by creating tiny pinhole injuries in the stretch mark itself. The skin responds by making new collagen, filling in the broken dermal layer. As the dermal layer expands, the colour fades because the skin thickens and the tiny blood vessels that give early stretch marks their pink/purple colour retreat.

How Long Does it Take To See Results From Micro-Needling?

You might be surprised to learn that results are almost immediate. As soon as the ‘micro-wounds’ are created on the skin, the body’s wound healing system will immediately respond to heal them. This means collagen production is sped up, along with cellular turnover (the process in which our skin produces new skin cells). While some low-level results (i.e plumper skin) may be almost immediate. Your best results from the Dermapen® probably will not be visible until four to six weeks after the procedure.
